Artist Research 3 Charles Henry Altson
Charles Henry Alston was an American painter, sculptor, illustrator, muralist, and teacher who lived and worked in New York. He was among the most prominent African American Artist from the 20th century. He experimented with the Modernist expression and created significant Art in the Abstract expressionism genre.
One of his work that '' The family'' 1955, Oil on Canvas (122.4 x 91 cm), Charles Altson depicts the hierarchy of a family such as we can see the father at the top, the mother cuddling the child, keeping the child safe from the civil right movement about to begin.
we can also see that he was highly influenced by the subject of African mask thus the head of those in the painting.
