February 2021 Sketches for theme of family

Updated: Apr 29, 2021

Here, there will be varieties of sketches that I worked on while exploring the theme of family.

from Oil painting, oil pastel to pencil work.

  1. titled '' Lunchtime '': (the yellow background work), this work was made from an old photograph that I found of me and my brother back in reception, we were having an African snack made of fried dough called '' Puff Puff '' during lunchtimes with our friends. I choose the colour yellow (painted as the background ) because I felt happy remembering the old times. it's oil pastel work and acrylic paint in A3 paper.

  2. titled '' Ya Regine '': (the blue background work), this work was also made from an old photograph of my aunt back in Drcongo with her children, she sent it to me. Oil paint and acrylic paint on canvas

  3. titled '' G&O'': (the grey background ), a photograph of my twins' sister on a sofa, Oil painting on A3 paper.

While exploring this theme, the use of colour was important to me, I began by painting the background first instinctively. however, now looking back, at the work I have created I can say through beginning with that process I was able to imagine what type of figure will go well with what colours. and it motivated me to create even more work.

the figure not having any expression on their face was done intentionally because I thought adding their expression was excessive and will ruin it .
