''Souffle '' 2021

'' Souffle '' 2021, Oil and Acrylic paint on Canvas, 59.4 x 42cm .

A photograph was taken by my mum on my 16th birthday with my 4 sisters while blowing the candles on my birthday cake.

This piece took me approximately 2 weeks and a half to complete (because of using oil paint and waiting for it to dry to add even more layers).

Strength: I like how well I depicted the birthday cake with the candles, and cream on the cake.

I am satisfied with how I set their focus on the birthday cake, and the painting tells a story of someone blowing their birthday cake while another person takes a picture or recording of the event hence the iPhone on the hands of my sister.

I am also satisfied with how well I worked with light and shadows. and everything fits where it's meant to be.

Area of improvement: probably next time I will be spending time studying the face (by a repeated drawing of their facial expression).

Next time, I will probably try to make their whole body and heads fit onto the canvas. and also will work with acrylic paints next time to show the details of their clothes even more.
