Artists research 2 Ania Hobson

Ania Hobson is a figurative painter, based in north Suffolk.

Before she initially focused on painting wildlife, and landscape paintings. Then later on, after an artist block ' in 2017, she focused on painting portraiture.

Portraiture Artists like Alice Neel and Kerry James Marshall had a strong influence on her work, and they inspired her highly.

since then she creates large scale painting of her family and friends in their normal habitat.

She works from life to capture the movements of her subjects.

Ania had her work '' Portrait of the two female painters '' accepted for the 2018 BP portrait Award and won before the events start.

hence, everything changed for the better, she received recognition for her work and a huge amount of media attention.

As part of the GAA Foundation's personal structure show, Ania Hobson was selected to exhibit at the Venice Biennale.

Back in college, Ania Hobson began working with acrylic paint and then later at university, she moved onto working with oil painting.

My opinion

I came across Ania Hobson through social media, watching one of her interviews on Gowithyamo youtube channel, where she talked about her practice and her life journey toward an artistic career. I was intrigued by how well the different shades of colours go well with each other and the brushstrokes onto the canvas. I am also fascinated by how every of her work tells a story of her subjects and the clothing of her figures/subjects are similar to the today generation since of fashion styles.
